Although all data is marked as ‘Average’ or ‘Top 10%’, with the exception of the Dexcel ProfitWatch data the balance could reasonably be considered as coming from the top 50%-70% of farms and hence the Top 10% coming from the top 5%-7% of farms. Benchmarks are based on Return on Capital with the exception of the Dexcel Economic Survey dairy data which is selected on Operating Profit per Hectare.
Sample numbers are continuing to increase. Most of the data has been entered by rural professionals and a majority has full physical as well as financial data available. The Red Sky 2004/05 dairy data has 433 farms in the benchmark and 243 farms in the 2003/04 benchmarks.
The 2004/05 Waikato Owner Operator benchmark includes 165 farms. The 2004/05 Taranaki Owner Operator benchmark includes 93 farms. The 2003/04 NZ 50/50 Sharemilker benchmark includes 61 farms. The 2003/04 NZ Owner with 50/50 Sharemilker benchmark includes 21 farms and some of these have the sharemilker revenue and expenses included, so interpretation of these figures must be undertaken with caution.
The 2004/05 New Zealand Red Sky sheep and beef data has 156 farms in the benchmark, with the majority of this data presently being provided by Baker & Associates of Masterton.
As a result of these issues and overall sample size, care should be taken when interpreting this data. No claim is made that this data is fully representative of the dairying districts/countries identified.
To obtain benchmark data after installing the program you go to the second wizard screen and enter ‘Retrieve Farmer/Clients’ or go to the Main Menu and ‘Farmer/Clients’ then ‘Retrieve’.
